In 1867, New York State Supreme Court Judge Joseph H. Potter (1821-1902) purchased, from Melancton Wheeler, the property on which Skene Manor stands. This land had previously been owned by Philip Skene, founder of Whitehall (formerly Skenesborough). Judge Potter built a Victorian Gothic-style mansion, which he called "Mountain Terrace," on the property. The mansion was designed by Philadelphia architect, Isaac H. Hobbs, and constructed by local contractor, A. C. Hopson. Construction took place from 1872 to 1874 at a cost of approximately $250,000. The building was constructed of gray sandstone quarried from Skene Mountain by stone cutters from Italy.

Nestled in the quiet hills above Shushan, features an owner designed 5x12 wood-fired stainless steel evaporator. Won "Worlds Best Maple Syrup" and New York State Legislature Recognition. Open year round by appointment. Tours during maple season.
In the 1940's, as a young man, John Chambers, Jr. gathered sap in Chambers Valley. He worked with horse drawn sleighs and metal pails. In 1990, Kevin Keyes began sugaring using metal pails and a homemade evaporator that provided just enough syrup for himself and his family. In 1995, Kevin convinced his brother in-law, Bob Chambers (John's son) to begin sugaring, since then they have been working together in what started out as a hobby into a growing business that provides maple products to individuals, local retailers and country clubs. The equipment has changed, from horses to tractors, and from metal pails to tubing, enhanced with a vacuum system. Today, our mission is to provide the finest quality maple products while enjoying our hobby with family and friends.

About....
Free admission, exhibits, archaeological lab, tourist information. Restaurant & Gift Shops. Special events & encampments.. Did you know that Fort Edward, and adjacent Rogers Island, was once the third largest "city" in colonial North America? That today's Special Operations forces, particularly the US Army Rangers, consider this little island in the Hudson River to be their "spiritual home"? That the history that was made from this place at the bend in the Hudson River in the 1750s would lay the foundations for the nation that would be born two decades later?
The art collection is comprised of Italian, Dutch, Flemish, German and French paintings from the fourteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Chinese and Asian tapestries and Oriental figurines are an added display attraction.. The grounds consist of nine acres, part of which was originally landscaped by the Georgi family. The remaining acres will soon be developed into a recreational and picnic area. The Battenkill winds around the southwestern perimeter, providing a beautiful natural setting.

In the summer of 1999 we presented our first play, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Hudson Falls High School Auditorium under the name Hudson Falls Community Theatre as a benefit for the SPCA of Upstate New York. Since then we have produced Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, A Winter's Tale, Cymbeline, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Hamlet, All’s Well That Ends Well, Much Ado About Nothing, Measure for Measure, Richard III, The Tempest, and Othello as well as five annual Halloween Readings, two Christmas shows, and three Broadway musical reviews. In the spring of 2006 we branched out to present the modern “classic” Greater Tuna, a hilarious two – man comedy staring Bruce VanGuilder and Andy Daly.
